A core focus of AWMH Maharashtra’s efforts is Individually tailored Early intervention programs. Research consistently shows that the first three years of a child’s life are the most critical for brain development, laying the foundation for their cognitive, emotional, and social growth. AWMH Maharashtra runs Six Early Intervention & Pre-schooling centres, located near the slum clusters in Mumbai. These centres support children to attain their physical, cognitive and social potential and prepare them for Inclusive education. Two of these centres at Ghatkopar & Khetwadi are supported by the Dalal family foundation USA.
The association between The Dalal Family Foundation USA and AWMH Maharashtra began in January 2018 with the setting up of an Early Intervention Centre at Ghatkopar. The centre is well equipped, child-friendly and has facilities for Occupational, Speech, Behavioural and Cognitive therapy. The children are also assessed for their special needs by a psychologist at regular intervals, and offered individualized therapies. The parents too are trained and encouraged to continue therapy at home and encourage regular attendance through awareness building.
Having seen the progress of the centre as well the overall organisational functioning & values, and with aim of anchoring with an organisation having potential to serve the children with disabilities, The Dalal Family Foundation USA, graciously extended their support to one more centre of AWMH in Khetwadi.
